Simple Church Website

Are you looking to have a simple church website without all the bells and whistles? With  a lot of features also comes a higher price tag. In this post, I’d like to talk about what you need to have in a basic church website.

Simple Church Website – What to Include

Clear Navigation

A simple clear navigation structure is very important. People will land on your site looking for specific information. Make it easy for them to find it. Have your most important pages on the top tier and have secondary pages as dropdowns under the top tier.

Some suggestions for top tier navigation pages:

  • Home
  • About
  • New Here
  • Contact Us

That’s really simple navigation. You could also add leadership or ministries to the top tier if you choose.

Service Times and Location

If possible, we recommend that you include service times and the location of your church on the homepage. If you want people to visit you, you have to make it really easy for them to find you and know what time to show up. Don’t make them go hunting for the information.

High Quality Pictures

While this may not seem important to include on a simple church website, the old adage “a picture says 1000 words” holds true here. People want to get a feel for who attends your church, who the leadership is and the general atmosphere of the church. Smiling friendly people can play a big role in whether someone actually visits your church or not. Use pictures of REAL people (with their permission, of course) and not stock photos.

Who You Are (About)

Include an about page on your website so people know what’s important to you.  This will help them decide if your church may be a good fit for them or not. Give a little of the history of your church, your beliefs and anything that makes you stand out from the sea of churches in your area.

You can include interesting other content as well. Kevin Hendricks had some good ideas about content surrounding posting sermons and events.

A simple church website will be easy to navigate and give a good snapshot of who you are and what someone will find when they visit you. The things mentioned here are the basics to start with. Your website can grow as your church grows so you will want to have a site that is easy to update and maintain. That is why we design WordPress church websites as they are flexible and easy to use.

If you would like to have a simple church website created, we’d be happy to help. All of our websites are mobile responsive, so they will look and function great on any size device. Let’s talk about your project and get started!
